What Is the Ubiquiti Dream Machine BEAST?
The Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine BEAST is a 1U rack‑mountable Cloud Gateway that bundles routing, advanced firewall features and the UniFi controller platform; it has no integrated Wi‑Fi radio, requiring standalone UniFi Access Points for wireless coverage [1, 2]. In plain terms, it’s an all‑in‑one device that lets you manage access points, switches, cameras and other UniFi gear from a single dashboard on a laptop or phone.

Who Might Want the BEAST in Bendigo?
The BEAST shines where a network needs to handle a lot of devices and still have room to grow:
- Busy offices or co‑working spaces that support hundreds of Wi‑Fi clients at once.
- Fast‑growing businesses – the eight WAN ports and high client capacity mean you won’t outgrow the gateway quickly.
- Companies that prefer a single dashboard for all UniFi gear, from APs to cameras, without juggling separate tools.
If you only have a handful of devices, the UniFi Dream Machine Pro or the entry‑level Dream Machine may be more cost‑effective. Larger sites in Bendigo or Echuca that plan to add more APs, cameras and switches will benefit
Installation & Setup in Bendigo
We offer a professional, on‑site service that covers everything from the initial quote to full configuration:
- Site survey and free quote – a technician visits your premises (Bendigo or Echuca) within two business days to check cabling, power and mounting options.
- PoE switches or injectors – needed to power UniFi APs and cameras. We can recommend a 48‑port PoE‑enabled switch that matches the BEAST’s capacity.
- Mounting the 1U unit – the BEAST fits standard 19‑inch rack enclosures; we’ll secure it in a server rack or wall‑mount cabinet as appropriate.
- Mobile app configuration – once the hardware is in place, the UniFi Network app on your phone lets you monitor traffic, set up guest Wi‑Fi and receive alerts. We walk you through the app so you can keep an eye on both network health and camera feeds.
All work is covered by a 24‑month parts and labour warranty and backed by ten-million-dollar public liability cover.
Complementary Hardware You May Need
To get the most out of the BEAST, consider adding these pieces:
- UniFi Access Points (e.g., U6‑Lite, U6‑Long‑Range) for solid indoor and outdoor coverage.
- PoE‑enabled switches – a 48‑port model works well for medium‑sized businesses.
- UniFi Protect and third-party cameras – native UniFi Protect cameras provide full feature support, while third-party models we stock from Hikvision, Dahua and Annke connect via basic ONVIF streams with limited feature parity.
- Ongoing support – remote troubleshooting, firmware updates and annual health checks are part of our service package.
Alternative UniFi Options
If the BEAST feels like more than you need, we also carry:
- Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro – 3.5 Gbps IPS/IDS throughput, supports 100+ managed devices [3]. A solid choice for strong performance without the full hyperscale capacity.
- Ubiquiti Dream Machine (standard) – 1 Gbps WAN router with built‑in controller, ideal for small offices or retail stores with modest device counts.
Choosing between them depends on how many devices you have now, how quickly you expect to grow, and your budget. The BEAST is the most scalable option when you anticipate expanding beyond the Pro’s limits.

Q: How does self‑monitoring work on the mobile app? A: After installation we configure the UniFi Network and Protect apps on your phone. You’ll be able to view live traffic, manage guest Wi‑Fi and watch camera feeds straight from the app.
